Triacetin is a triglyceride obtained by acetylation of the three hydroxy groups of glycerol. It is a colorless, viscous, and odorless liquid with a high boiling point and a low melting point. Triacetin is functionally related to an acetic acid. 

Technical grade Triacetin is mainly used as a hardener for moulding resin, plasticizer and solvent of printing ink. Food grade Triacetin is mainly used as plasticizer for acrylic fabric filter stick used in cigarette filter tips, fixed flavoring agent for essence and perfumery and innocuous plasticizer for food plastic.
